Infernos Gorge Natural Reserve
The Natural Reserve of Garganta de los Infiernos (infernos gorge) is located
on Jerte Valley, at the northwest of Tormantos mountain range, the southeast
of Gredos mountain range and Jerte River. Water surrounds the Jerte Valley and
the waterfalls, streams and gorges compose the natural reserve.

Granite and gneiss are the main rocks in the
Infernos gorge.
We reach the highest points at 2.281 m, in the
place called Cuerda de los Infiernillos and 2.290 m at Cerro del Estecillo,
that surround the Serrá gorge, it was an old glacier valley that was
shaped by quaternary ice.
The hydrographic net stands out in this natural reserve
where waterfalls and streams flow, water is the
key element even in dry areas it is felt.

Nevertheless, one of the best well-known places
in the gorge is Los Pilones, in this area rocks
were shaped by fluvial erosion that caused the formation of puddles inside the
rocks.

Due to the wide altitude, from 300 to 2000 metres,
there are different varieties of herbs, bushes or trees placed in deciduous
forests, banks, mountainous pines and alpine pastures.
Chestnut trees
stand out in the decidious forests, and the population of the region take advantage
of its wood, as well as the delicious
chestnuts.
Due to the multiple ecosystems in the natural
reserve there is a wide variety of animals such as royal eagles, tawny
vultures, peregrine falcons or mountain goats.
From the top of the valley descending to the lower pastures a great amount of
animals have adapted to this wide variety of habitats.
