Easter celebrations in Mérida
The Guadiana river and the historical Roman buildings of Merida are witnesses and participants of the Christian celebrations of this ancient city. The impressive Via Crucis in the Roman amphiteatre is one of the most attracting acts of the Easter week in Merida.

In the city of Mérida visitors know one of the oldest penitent tradtions in Extremadura. There are visigoth references to the Cristo de la O. However, the older brotherhood that nowadays covers the streets of Mérida is El Cristo de la Vera Cruz, that dates from 16th Century.
