The caves are in Fuentes de León, right in the south of Badajoz. It occupies 1.020 hectares and is full of holm oaks and olive trees. It is 200-741 metres above sea level.
The area is marked out by the places known as "La Suerte del Montero", "El Bujo", "Cerro del Cuerno" and "Sierra del Puerto", and several streams like Montemayor stream and its tributaries cross the zone.
The karst caves were formed throughout the time as a consequence of the changes that took place because of water's action over limestone carbonates.
Inside the speleothems form stalactites, stalagmites, bunches of aragonite, and other rocky formations.
The Natural Monument is composed of a caves set named as La lamparilla, Sima Cochinos, Cueva del Agua, Los Postes, Los Caballos and Cueva Masero
