Saint Isidro Pilgrimage in Valencia de Alcántara

Every 15th of May the inhabitants of Valencia de Alcántara go to the countryside to celebrate the farmers Saint Isidro Day.

From the 60's Saint Isidro Brotherhood organize all the events relating to the Pilgrimage. The most important is the social luncheon in the countryside where everybody is welcomed.

The pilgrims dress up with typical costumes and go to countryside in embellished carriages specially prepared for the occasion. There a mass is celebrated as well as different events.

Throughout the day the cultural heritage of Extremadura is showed. Popular songs and dances are performed. Excellent food, good wines and a perfect day in the country.

In the afternoon people go back to Valencia de Alcántara to continue the party in the town.
