

The territory the mountain range occupies is a natural paradise where forests, pastures and thickets intermingle. Lakes, streams and Peña del Águila dam join to the vegetable life and the wide variety of birds, vertabrates and amphibians. This natural space is perfect to enjoy nature by means of fishing, hunting or going for a hikking path.
Holm oaks and cork oak forests come together with broom and heather. The pastures, rockroses and asphodelus make up dry land landscapes.
Oaks, alders, willows and ashes together with rivers and streams drop the high temperatures and provide humidity and increase weather conditions of the mountain range and the region. This is the perfect ecosystem for Iberian lynx and wolf to live.
The mountain range of San Pedro is home for species in danger of extinction such as Iberian imperial eagle. This is one of the most outstanding birds in San Pedro, a place where this bird of prey fly over. It is important to know basic information about how birds live, and some warnigs we should take into account before watching the birds.
Sierra de San Pedro is a perfect zone for birdwatching. Visitors can learn about the zone in Centro Alas (Sierra de San Pedro knowledge center), located in San Vicente de Alcantara.
As the seasons go by the landscape of San Pedro changes providing a beautiful colorful sight. When Autumm and first rains come deers bellow to attrack their couples and mushrooms grow up. The zone is a mushroom paradise and there is a wide range of varieties , however, we must be careful with them. When the temperatures decrease wood pigeons fly over the wintry landscape and the sky becomes an excellent scene to watch them.
The towns and municipalities around the Mountain range of San Pedro are places of interest to visit. Valencia de Alcántara is a good example, with more than 40 dolmens in a reduced area, this place is one of the biggest megalithic sets in Europe.

Alburquerque, a town close to Valencia de Alcántara, preserves the magic of medieval ages on its streets, alleys, squares and above all the Moon Castle. On August the whole population travels back in time to medieval ages through dresses, joust competitions, markets,... This feast is known as the Medieval Festival of the Ville of Alburquerque.
