The Battle of La Albuera
About the middle of May, the town of La Albuera (Badajoz) reproduces the historical battle that took place there between Napoleonic troops and english-spanish-portuguese troops. It is noteworthy the wonderful cavalries and infantries from different countries, the colourful uniforms and banners, and the scent of the gunpowder.

The historical representation takes place in the middle of May. For some days people are witnesses of the infantries and cavalries march-pasts, as well as the battles.
The performance is carried out by historical recreation associations and groups from Spain, The Spanish Napoleonic Association, Guilds from other countries as well as people whose ancestors fought in this battle.

The Battle of La Albuiera was one of the bloodiest episodes in the Spanish Independence War. The French troops were guided by General Soult fought in 1811 against anglo-portuguese (Beresford) and Spanish (Castaños, Blake, Ballesteros) troops.
About 10.000 men died in just one day, however there was no clear winner and the battle had no effective influence in the whole war..
Among all the spectacular aspects the colourful uniforms, the way of fighting, the sound and smoke from the arms, or the impressive military forces stand out. And for these reasons thousands of people go to La Albuera every year to discover a different point of view of this historical event.
