

The source of Jerte's river tributary (Tornavacas)
Rivers Ambroz and Jerte form in their riversides valleys surrounded by singular and charming ecosystems.
Rivers crossing the valleys, indigenous flora and cherry tree plantations make this one of the most attractive and quite areas in Extremadura.
We begin our journey in Plasencia, recognized as historical and cultural landamark, it is placed on the riverside of Jerte River. The capital city of the area is a cultural and economic centre of great importance. Inside its walls the visitor will marvel at the palaces, stately homes, churches, convents and museums.

The city celebrates the first Tuesday of August one of its greater feasts, Martes Mayor, it is a celebration in the main square.
Going up through the Valley of Ambroz up to Guijo de Granadilla our first stopover is the Roman arc of Cápparra. It is a civil construction which marks a crossroads, the Silver Route and the road that led to the Roman Village of Cáparra.

The landscape shows impressive views. Chestnut trees, pines and oak woods emphasize a montainous outlook, here, the water murmurs while it descends through gorges and streams. In Guijo de Granadilla the house where the writer Gabriel y Galan lived has turned into a museum, the museum approaches us the writer's world.
Following our route we reach Baños de Montemayor, thus named after the old Roman baths. This small town is the last stopover of the Silver Route on its way through Extremadura, here there is a hostel for pilgrims and an interactive centre about the path to Santiago.
From Baños we head towards the Valley of Jerte where it is essential to visit Hervás. It is one of the most outstanding towns in the zone due to its jewish heritage that it still is preserved.

And what is more, there are several museums such as Pérez Comendador-Leroux that shows the works of these two artists; or the Classic Motorcycle Museum where motorcycles from all ages are shown.
