

Views from Tornavacas Pass
As we go up into the Jerte Valley through Honduras Pass we reached Tornavacas, the highest northern point in the valley.
Emperor Charles V entered Extremadura through Tornavacas, he was on his way to Monastery of Yuste; nowadays is the starting point for the Charles V hikking Route.
The town shows its represantive beautiful streets. Alongside Tornavacas the Pass named after the nearby town invites to contemplate the valley. The views are spectacular.
All the towns in the valley celebrate the Cherry Tree Blossoming Feast when the Spring comes. This feast changes its place of celebration to all the villages and towns have the chance to host the feast.
Going down through N-110 road up to the town of Jerte; this town is famous for its alabaster objects and the gorges that Jerte River make up in its way through the town, crystal-clear small lakes. In jerte there is an interactive centre about the Inferno Gorge Natural Reserve.

As well as the Callejón de los Bueyes (Ox Alley), a popular street where adobe houses have survived a fire during Spanish Independence War.
Cabezuela del Valle is another characteristic town due to its singular arquitectures, moreover an interactive centre about cherry and all the products made with this fruit.
Alongside Jerte River we reached Navaconcejo to visit the Coarse Woolen Cloth Factory which was built in the 15th Century. Close to this town it is Piornal, the highest town in Cáceres Province, from here we have the chance to contemplate the whole valley. This town on 19th and 20th January celebrates the Jarramplas, a Celebration of Interest.
Our route leads us to the starting point, Plasencia, however we do a last stopover in El Torno. The impressive views remind us we are in the Cherry tree land for this reason here, we have the chance to taste Kirsh and other liqeurs made of cherries and fruits.

These two valleys, Ambroz and Jerte, are two clear exponents of the Natural Beauty in Extremadura. Traditions are well-kept and time stops to welcome the travellers that come.
